NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila — The Philippine Navy officially commissioned and christened its 7th Acero-class Fast Attack Interdiction Craft-Missile (FAIC-M), BRP Tomas Campo (PG-908), in a ceremony graced by the Philippine Navy Flag Officer In Command, Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr. as the Keynote Speaker at the Navy Headquarters on November 13.
"Your dedication to this endeavor has turned our blueprints and steel into a formidable ship that embodies the resilience and spirit of the Philippine Navy,” Vice Adm. Adaci said as he expressed gratitude to the Department of National Defense (DND) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) leadership for their support, as well as to the shipbuilders and engineers who contributed to the vessel’s completion.
The new FAIC-M is named in honor of Sgt. Tomas Campo, a Medal of Valor recipient from the Philippine Marine Corps’ Marine Battalion Landing Team 10 (MBLT-10), who saved 11 Marines before succumbing to enemy gunfire during an encounter in April 2000.
Like its six (6) predecessors, BRP Tomas Campo is designed to strengthen the Philippine Navy’s capacity to secure the archipelago with its speed, agility, and precision allowing rapid deployment and improved maritime interdiction capabilities.
The Commissioning and Christening Ceremony is a Navy tradition that signifies breathing life into the BRP Tomas Campo, which now stands as a vital addition to the fleet and a lasting tribute to Sgt. Tomas Campo’s heroic legacy.
