NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila—In time for its 126th Anniversary Celebration, the Philippine Navy (PN) adds two more of its Fast Attack Interdiction Crafts (FAICs) with the commissioning of the BRP Herminigildo Yurong (PG906) and BRP Laurence Narag (PG907) in a ceremony conducted with the PN Flag Officer In Command, Vice Adm. Toribio Adaci Jr on May 21, 2024 at the Navy Headquarters.
"These crafts are indispensable assets for archipelagic defense, tailored to address unique challenges inherent to the Philippine maritime landscape. As force multipliers, these crafts enable rapid deployment and force projection, strengthen our deterrence, and uphold maritime security across Philippine waters," Vice Adm. Adaci Jr. said as he emphasized the significance of the acquisition of the newest missile-capable Acero Class Patrol Gunboats in accelerating the Navy's modernization efforts.
The Navy Chief also expressed his gratitude to the national leadership and the Department of National Defense for their support throughout the FAIC acquisition process.
“The Philippine Navy takes pride in aligning itself with the national leadership's commitment to a defense posture that resonates with the unique characteristics and needs of our geographic configuration. Despite an enduring journey, the Philippine Navy remains committed to improving our physical capabilities and, more importantly, our collective consciousness to be at the forefront of our comprehensive archipelagic defense," he added.
Named after two Medal for Valor awardees, the late SSg Herminigildo Yurong PN(M) and Cpl Laurence Narag PN(M), the commissioning of the additional FAIC vessels is a commemoration of their heroism and serves as a step forward in the PN's advancement to becoming a naval force that is responsive to the defense of the nation.
