NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila —The Philippine Navy, through the Naval Ammunition and Explosives Center (NAEC), in partnership with the Norwegian Embassy and Norwegian People’s Aid, held the inaugural Arms Management and Destruction Conference 2024 on October 15 in Makati City.
"Working together is not just a strategy—it is a necessity," said Rear Adm. Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta, Vice Commander of the Philippine Navy as he emphasized the importance of international cooperation to enhance arms and explosives management. He also expressed gratitude to the Norwegian Embassy and Norwegian People’s Aid for their support and underscored the urgency of arms control.
With the theme “Working Together Towards a Better and Safer Future,” the conference highlighted the collective responsibility of governments, military organizations, and industry stakeholders in addressing global security challenges.
“Arms Management and Destruction (AMD) is a key element in the internal and external security priorities of the Philippines. I am proud that Norway—along with many likeminded states, multilateral institutions, and civil society organizations—is contributing toward this goal. While more work needs to be done, this conference marks a significant milestone," stated Norwegian Ambassador Christian Halaas Lyster as he addressed the critical role of arms management in peacebuilding.
The conference concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Philippine Navy and Norwegian People’s Aid, solidifying their partnership in capacity development in ammunition and explosives management.
The Arms Management and Destruction Conference 2024 represents a significant step in advancing arms control protocols and fostering international cooperation to enhance security practices globally.
