PH Navy in Eastern Mindanao intercepts smuggled cigarettes worth Php30M in Davao Gulf
📅 September 24, 2024

PH Navy’s BRP Herminigildo Yurong (PG906) under the operational control of Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao’s Naval Task Force 71 apprehended a motorized banca, M/B 3 Sister, on September 23, while conducting a maritime patrol in the Davao Gulf.

The banca was apprehended 3.2 nautical miles off East Pt., IGACOS, transporting approximately 800 boxes of illicit cigarettes valued at Php30 million. The vessel, reportedly from Jolo, Sulu, and bound for Panabo, Davao del Norte, had 11 crew members on board. They were unable to present legal documents and were subsequently escorted to Naval Station Felix Apolinario (NSFA) for further investigation.

Upon arrival at NSFA, the crew underwent medical assessment, while the contraband was inspected and accounted for. The cargo and crew were later handed over to the Bureau of Customs and local authorities for proper disposition.
