PH Navy strengthens ties with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force during courtesy visit
📅 December 05, 2024

NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila – The Philippine Navy warmly welcomed a delegation from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), led by Commander Koga Naoki, Commanding Officer of JS Samidare (DD-106), during a courtesy visit on December 3, 2024, at the Navy Headquarters.

Commander Naoki and his delegation, who were in the country for a goodwill visit, were received by Captain Irineo Battung, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff for Operations, N3. During their discussions, Capt. Battung expressed gratitude to the JMSDF for selecting the Philippines as one of its port calls and for the strong defense partnership established through the Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA), signed in July 2024.

“We are hopeful for more opportunities for collaboration, including naval exercises and humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations, to further strengthen regional peace, security, and stability,” said Capt. Battung.

This engagement highlights the enduring partnership between the Philippines and Japan, built on shared values and mutual interests in maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific.
