NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila — Concluding his 2-year tenure, the Military Attaché of Turkey to the Philippines, Captain Yavuz Mercan, paid his farewell visit to the Navy Headquarters on August 27, 2024,
Representing the PN Flag Officer In Command, PN Vice Commander Rear Adm. Jose Ma Ambrosio Ezpeleta, along with other senior PN officers, warmly received Capt. Mercan.
"On behalf of the PN and our Flag Officer In Command, we extend our sincere thanks for your invaluable support and coordination with the Turkish Navy and Armed Forces. We have made significant strides, particularly in modernization, and we look forward to continued engagements with the incoming naval attaché," said Rear Adm. Ezpeleta as he expressed gratitude for Capt. Mercan's steadfast support and efforts in assisting the Philippine Navy.
As attachè, Capt. Mercan played a role in facilitating technical working groups by engaging major Turkish defense industries. His efforts provided diverse perspectives, expertise, and insights into various AFP modernization projects including the AFP Cyber Systems, Electronic Warfare, Weapons and Sensors Systems Upgrade for PN ships, Frigate-Corvette and Fast Attack Interdiction Craft Projects, Integrated Short Range Air Defense System (SHORADS), Joint EW, Joint Counter UAS, and Simulator-Based Pilot Training.
The Philippine Navy remains committed to fostering and strengthening its enduring partnership with the Turkish Navy and looks forward to continued joint efforts in advancing their common interests in maritime security and defense.
